Delta's Recreation Inventory & Project Assessment Tool

At the May 11, 2009 Regular Council Meeting a report to Delta Council entitled Parks, Recreation & Culture Infrastructure Funding Priorities was presented which provided a comparison of Delta's inventory of parks, recreational and cultural facilities with other neighbouring communities. The report shows that Delta compares favourably to neighbouring municipalities in many areas.

Evaluating the ratio of facilities per capita against the populations of Burnaby, Richmond, Coquitlam and Surrey combined, shows that Delta has a greater level of municipal facilities on a per capita basis with the exception of community gymnasiums, outdoor tracks, stadiums and outdoor sport tournament complexes. The inventory comparison is listed below as Municipally Owned Parks & Recreation Facilities under the Reports & Related Documents section.

Infrastructure Project Assessment Tool

Also included in the Council report on Parks, Recreation & Culture Infrastructure Funding Priorities is a project assessment tool developed to assist in determining priorities for community initiated projects.

The Corporation of Delta often receives requests for municipal support of new or expanded parks, recreation and cultural social infrastructure projects and the Infrastructure Project Tool is designed to assess project proposals based on a set of criteria that considers ownership, building standards, funding sources, as well as plans to address annual operating and lifecycle asset replacement. This project tool will assist the Corporation of Delta in prioritizing future parks, recreation and culture infrastructure project proposals. The Council Report and Infrastructure Project Assessment Tool are listed below under the Reports & Related Documents section.
