Emergency Preparedness Week
Emergency Preparedness Week serves as a call to action and emphasizes the importance of taking steps now to improve preparedness levels. An emergency situation can happen anywhere and anytime. We all need to be prepared to deal with these events at the personal, community, provincial/territorial and federal government levels.
Emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility and it is up to each and every Canadian to learn what to do before, during and after an emergency situation.
Delta's Emergency Program is responsible for coordinating Delta's preparation for, response to, and recovery from a major emergency/ disaster. This includes activities such as:
- identifying potential hazards and risks the community may face (e.g., dangerous goods spills, flooding; severe weather and earthquakes)
- identifying mitigation practices to reduce the impact of these hazards
- developing emergency plans, training, public education programs, and disaster exercises
- coordinating response activities with municipal departments and external support agencies
- coordinating recovery efforts in order to return services to normal levels quickly
Public safety begins at home, and individual preparedness can greatly reduce the potential impact of an emergency.
- Know the risks specific to your community.
- Develop a family emergency plan and practice it.
- Prepare an emergency kit for your home and your vehicle.
