Rainbarrel Program

The biggest peaks in water usage occur in the summer when about half to three quarters of all municipally treated water is used outdoors. Help conserve our drinking water by storing rain water in a rainbarrel for use around your yard. Simply place your rainbarrel against the side of your house, hook it up to your down spout, and start collecting water!
Rainbarrels are great for watering lawns, flowerbeds and shrubs as well as washing cars. Water collected in a rainbarrel is ideal for your yard because it's non-chlorinated, it's the correct temperature and, it's free! Rainbarrel water is not recommended for consumption or for watering vegetable gardens.
The Corporation of Delta offers rainbarrels { pdf 1.21MB } to residents for $70.00* (including tax and delivery). They are made from dark green recycled plastic and the half cylinder design allows it to sit flat up against a wall. Approximately 137 cm high, 53 cm deep and 107 cm wide, each barrel holds up to 341 liters (75 gallons) of water and weighs about 20.5 kg (when empty). When attached to the downspout of a residential home it can fill up on one day of rain.
Included with Rainbarrel:
- Screen to remove debris
- Two (2) faucets to accommodate hoses and watering cans
- PVC overflow pipe
- PVC plug
