Streetlights

Requests for a street light should be made in writing to the Roads and Transportation Division of the Engineering Department for evaluation (by mail or e-mail engineering@corp.delta.bc.ca). We investigate the need for street lights on a case by case basis. The desired locations are:

• mid-block spacing at every second wooden utility pole within urban areas,
• at intersections, and
• at the end of pathways/walkways and on bridges.

A field visit is made to evaluate the site conditions, such as existing road geometry, road profile and nearby lights). If Engineering supports the addition of a streetlight, arrangements are made for either a B.C. Hydro Lease Light or an Ornamental Street Light to be installed. It may take a few months depending on nearby power sources and/or schedules. Affected nearby property owners may be required to sign a letter indicating they are in agreement with the streetlight installation.
