Emergency Response Routes

disaster_response_route_sign.gif

Emergency response routes are designated for use by emergency vehicles during a major disaster. These routes are considered to be those most likely to survive a major event such as an earthquake or flood. During a major emergency they will be the designated routes to transport rescue equipment, personnel, food and supplies from regional sources to the communities.

Road access from one area to another, from airports and from ports must be kept clear of non-essential vehicles and debris.

Roadways designated as Emergency Response Routes display visible Emergency Response Routes signs along them.

STAY OFF THESE ROADS WHEN A DISASTER STRIKES and LISTEN TO THE RADIO for public service announcements regarding specific routes and what they are being used for.
