10:00 am Today Delta Police granted access to Delta Parks crews to commence works to improve the sightlines and visibility at Mackie Park. Over the past week, Parks crews have been assisting Delta Police in clearing areas at Mackie Park as part of their investigation. As directed by Mayor Lois E. Jackson, Parks crews will now focus on trimming the bushes, cutting tree limbs and constructing pathways to address concerns expressed by the community. The extent and locations of vegetation removal are being determined by the Parks, Recreation and Culture department in consultation with the Delta Police Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) team. Delta Police will continue their investigation at various locations in Mackie Park. While these works are underway at Mackie Park, our Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission is reviewing other heavily forested parkland areas of concern in Delta. The Commission, Chaired by Councillor Robert Campbell, will report back to Council on their findings this fall. A report on the status of the Mackie Park safety measures currently underway along with an update on the activities of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission will be provided to Delta Council at the October 25, 2010 Regular meeting. For further information, contact Ken Kuntz, Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture by telephone at (604) 952-3537 or email kkuntz@corp.delta.bc.ca |
