Delta Heritage Advisory Commission to Receive Outstanding Achievement Award

June 3, 2008

The Delta Heritage Advisory Commission (HAC) has been selected by Heritage BC to receive an Outstanding Achievement Award in Advocacy for the design and publication of the Delta Heritage Passport - Volume I (Plaques and Interpretive Signs).

The Delta Heritage Passport was produced by the HAC as a means to showcase the rich and varied history of Delta to residents and visitors. It includes brief accounts, maps, and photos of 19 historic places within the municipality. The passport was first distributed during Heritage Week in 2007. Public response to the passport has been overwhelmingly positive.

The Delta Heritage Passport was the result of a tremendous effort on the part of the HAC. Members initiated the passport idea, conducted research, collected photographs, provided the write-ups and descriptions, and aided in the design and layout of the passport itself.

This inaugural passport is the first volume in a planned series intended to further raise awareness of, and celebrate Delta's unique historical places. The Delta Heritage Passport is a significant and creative way of educating both residents and visitors about heritage in Delta.

Heritage BC will present the Outstanding Achievement Award at 7:00 pm at the Regular Council meeting on June 9, 2008.
