New Fire Truck Unveiled

December 13, 2010

12:00 pm

Mayor Lois E. Jackson, Fire Chief Dan Copeland and Chief Administrative Officer George V. Harvie were on hand at Fire Hall No. 3 in North Delta today to unveil Delta's new state-of-the-art fire truck.

The 100-foot aerial platform provides enhanced protection for Delta's firefighters with its advanced safety specifications, including a cascade air system that supplies breathing air to the platform. With the addition of this truck to Delta's fleet, our firefighters are better equipped to fight fires effectively.

With new large-scale developments, such as the Sunstone Community at Delsom Estates, comes increased demand for fire-fighting capabilities; the new fire truck assists in meeting this demand.

Aware of the fire department's aging fleet, the purchase of this truck was a result of prudent planning by Council, the Fire Chief and the Director of Finance who had the foresight to proactively purchase U.S. currency in 2008; a time when the Canadian dollar was at parity with the U.S. dollar. This resulted in significant cost savings on the purchase of the fire truck, which was built in Snyder Nebraska and supplied by Safetek Emergency Vehicles Ltd. in Abbotsford B.C.

"The safety of our citizens and firefighters is of utmost importance," said Mayor Lois E. Jackson. "The addition of this fire truck to Delta's fleet enhances our ability to effectively serve all residents and businesses of Delta."
