Delta's Grade Five and Six Recreation Pass Program

Getting Our Children Active
August 30, 2010

Delta is committed to helping children get active and stay healthy! Grade Five students who live in Delta receive free admission when they attend drop-in skating and swim programs at all Delta Parks, Recreation & Culture facilities. All they need to do is activate their Grade Five Pass. The passes are good from September 1, 2010 to August 31, 2011.

Grade Five Passes are available to Delta residents attending grade five for the 2009-2010 school year. With the pass, they will be able to attend any public skate or swim session for free and they can bring along a person over the age of 13 for free each time they use their pass. To get the pass started, students bring their birth certificate and proof of address to the customer service office in any of Delta's recreation facilities and have their photo taken for the pass card; they'll be able to swim or skate right away. Students whose birth year is not 2000 need a note from their teacher or principal affirming enrollment in grade five.

The Grade Six Ten Admission Pass extends the free admission period to grade six students who live in Delta. Students can pick up the free cards at their local recreation facility anytime after August 31st with proof of Delta residency and birth date and can use the ten free admissions at any time after issue.

Delta's pass has been in place for five years and has served as a template for similar recreation programs in BC and across Canada, including Coquitlam, Vancouver, the Tri-Cities area, Richmond and Kitchener, Ontario. The intent is to provide opportunities for children to try out new fitness and sport options at a time when their enrollment in organized sports starts to drop.
