North Delta Recreation Centre Expansion

Overview

Following public consultation, Delta now has a concept plan for a 25,000 square foot expansion of the North Delta Recreation Centre which includes replacement of 6,000 square feet of aging infrastructure. The expansion includes two key elements:

The concept emerged after significant consultation and resulted in a flexible use space that reinforces a sense of community. Given the volume of existing municipal services that occur from this centre indicates that North Delta residents prefer to access civic services close to home.

The cost of the proposed expansion project is estimated at $9 million; Delta's 2011 Financial Plan includes $6.5 million towards this project. The balance of the funds for the North Delta Recreation Centre Expansion has been referred to the 2012 Business Planning Workshop for consideration.

In keeping with Delta's commitment to environmental sustainability, staff is investigating the potential for a community energy system that will provide ground sourced heating and cooling to several municipal buildings in the Social Heart area and will report back to Council at a future date.
