Edgar Dunning Archives Facility

Dunning Archives Facility

Extensive renovations are being undertaken to part of the lower floor of the old courthouse next to Delta Municipal Hall. Once complete, the Edgar Dunning Archives Facility will provide a state of the art facility for storage of Delta's historic documents. The new building will feature an at-grade entry for good accessibility, will have a climate-controlled environment to ensure preservation of documents and will house Municipal archival information along with the community archives, which are maintained by the Delta Museum & Archives Society. The Edgar Dunning Archives Facility will provide 'one stop shopping' for people researching the history of Delta and its citizens. Construction is expected to be complete in the summer of 2010; public access will begin once archives materials have been moved in and safely stored.

This is one of nine initiatives underway in Delta that came as a result of the federal funding to stimulate the economy and address aging municipal infrastructure. The Archives expansion budget is $675,000, of which $450,000 will come from the Provincial/Federal Infrastructure Stimulus Fund (BC Transportation & Infrastructure) and $225,000 from Delta's capital fund.
