Role and Responsibilities
The Engineering Department contributes to the overall purpose of the Corporation of Delta by providing a full range of public works services and facilities. These include such fundamental services as:
- Administration & Customer Service - Do you have questions about your garbage pick-up, water supply, sewage collection, drainage, or other concern? The Engineering front counter staff is typically your first point of contact. They handle over 22,000 calls annually and can be reached by submitting an On-line Service Request or by phone at (604) 946-3260.
- Engineering Operations - The Operations staff is responsible for Water, Roads, Sewerage and Drainage maintenance. Delta has two full time construction crews primarily involved in water and sewer infrastructure upgrade and replacement. Mechanic staff provides maintenance of a fleet of corporate vehicles, heavy equipment and an assortment of specialized equipment.
- Design and Construction - Responsible for engineering design, tendering and construction of Delta's road and utility infrastructure.
- Utilities Management - Plans, budgets and provides design support and operational advice for the Water Supply, Drainage and Dikes, Sewage and Solid Waste collection, disposal and recycling programs. The GIS/CAD mapping services for the community are also provided by this group.
- Transportation- responsible for the planning, budgeting and design support and operational advices for Delta's transportation network (i.e. roads, cycling and pedestrian corridors), streets, traffic signals and street lighting.
- Development Engineering Division - This group assist with the engineering planning, review and coordination of utility and transportation requirements for new development.
