Heritage Advisory Commission (HAC)

The purpose of the Heritage Advisory Commission is to offer advice to Council on policies and development issues relating to history, heritage, conservation and preservation (see Delta Heritage webpage).

Mandate

The HAC will undertake the following:

• Identify and monitor the community's built, natural and cultivated heritage resources.
• Make recommendations regarding heritage goals, objectives and policies for the community and their implementation.
• Provide the heritage perspective on development proposals.
• Encourage coordination of heritage conservation activities of local heritage organizations.
• Undertake or support heritage related activities authorized by Council.
• Promote public education and awareness of heritage.
• Investigate the establishment of a Delta Heritage Society.
• Advise on any other matters referred by Council.

Meeting Schedule

The HAC meets the second Thursday of each month. Note: Meeting dates are subject to change and should be confirmed by calling (604) 952-3175 or (604) 946-3217.

Membership

The Commission shall consist of eleven (11) members appointed or as otherwise directed by Council, who shall serve without compensation as follows:

• Two (2) members of Council, one will serve as the Chair, and one will serve as Vice Chair.
• Nine (9) members, including one representative from the Delta Museum and Archives Society, and one from the Tsawwassen First Nation.
