Arne Knudsen Receives Delta's 2nd Freedom of the Municipality Award
Delta's second Freedom of the Municipality Award was presented to Mr. Arne Paul Knudsen during a Special Ceremony held at the Kennedy Seniors' Recreation Centre - North Delta on May 29, 2006.
The Freedom of the Municipality Award represents the highest honour that The Corporation of Delta can bestow on an individual. This recognition means to have "freedom of the municipality" and recipients are welcomed at any and all civic functions and meetings. Council has the authority, under Section 158 of the Community Charter, to confer this honour, by unanimous vote. This honour is restricted to only very exceptional cases of merit for an individual who has brought recognition to the respective community through his or her achievements. Arne Knudsen has been internationally recognized for his service and heroic efforts during the Spanish Civil and Second World Wars. In 1946, he settled in the North Delta area. His contributions to the community include being one of the founding members of the North Delta Ratepayers Association, which was successful in lobbying for the provision of water and sewer services for Surrey and North Delta.
